2020 written in the sand with 2019 being washed away by a waveHappy New Year! It is that time of the year again when we all create resolutions – losing weight, saving money, and all the other things we have great plans to do over the course of the year. Here are a few resolutions for community associations that seem to be relevant year after year:

1. Check your status with the Secretary of State.

2. Make sure your fidelity bond limit is in compliance with both the law and your governing documents.

3. Take inventory of the association’s business property (pool furniture, clubhouse contents, etc.)

4. Review or create a policy for who is responsible for the insurance deductible in the event of a claim.

5. Collect “additional insured” endorsements from service providers.

For more details on these, see the Berg Blog.

We reached out to Laura Ravazza from Homeowners Management Company for her resolutions for the new year, and her suggestion is emergency preparedness protocol and plans. We think that is a great idea!

Is your community prepared in the event of a disaster? If you are in a condo building, have you ever conducted a fire drill? If you are near open space areas, is there a plan for wildfire? If you have fire sprinklers, when was the last time they were certified? Have you included any safety information in any of your newsletters?

Make 2020 a year to visualize safety for your community. 2020…visualize…see what I did there?

If you have other ideas for resolutions for your communities let me know! I would love to hear from you!
