April 1, 2021 While the entire last year has often felt like one big, long April Fool’s joke, we seem to be slowly leaving that cave in which we have been hiding. So now it is time for some FUN! Every April, we run the most entertaining Coverage Corner of the year – the April Fools Edition! Check out the claims below. Can you spot the one that is not true? All those submitting correct answers will be entered into a raffle for a gift card. A community was in the process of seal coating the driveways and a resident decided that it was so important to get to her home while the street was wet that she scaled over her 6′ tall stucco patio fence and fell while trying to get into her home. The manager emailed “Still not sure why she didn’t walk along the edge of the driveway along the cement swale and right to her home.” (Some things we will never understand.) Unit owners are awakened by what sounded like “a bathtub being turned on inside the wall.” They immediately shut the water off to the home. The plumber was called and found a failure in a valve on a pipe leading to the bathtub. While the valve completely failed, all the water went into the bathtub so there was actually no property damage at all. (Bathtub FTW!) A PUD association held a community garage sale each year, with individuals voluntarily participating. At one home, an elderly friend of the owner was helping and accidentally dropped a heavy picture frame on a visitor’s foot. The injury necessitated surgery and the injured visitor sued. The association and management company were named in the lawsuit because “they failed to provide proper direction and support for the sale of items that could cause injury.” (Because they should have seen that coming in their crystal ball…) In an upper-floor unit of a high-rise condominium building, an owner’s boa constrictor got free from its terrarium and found its way into the toilet. It slithered down the sewer line until it got stuck a few floors down, where it eventually died. It caused a blockage that backed up into the bathrooms of three separate units. (Poor Boa…☹) Can you spot the fake? Email your guess to terri@berginsurance.com by April 15th. All correct entries will be entered into a drawing for a gift card, and the winner will be announced in next month’s Coverage Corner!
