April 1, 2019 It’s that time again! The April Fools edition of Coverage Corner! Can you spot the claim that isn’t true? All those submitting correct answers will be entered into a raffle for a gift card. While a couple was on vacation for a week, a burglar broke into their home and then tried to escape through the garage. He ended up locking himself IN the garage because the opener wouldn’t work. He was trapped for a week and forced to dine on dog food and soda (the only edible things in the garage). He escaped when the couple returned – and then filed an insurance claim against the owners for mental anguish. An association has an online payment portal which was hacked. $363,000 was taken out of the association’s operating account through a reverse engineering process. The FBI was able to back trace the hacker and catch them, but the hacker had already transferred the money to an offshore account. The association filed a claim on their Cyber Liability Policy and recovered their losses (minus the deductible). A man filed a “lost baggage” claim on his travel insurance policy over lost dentures. Apparently, he got drunk on a cruise ship vacation and lost them while barfing over the side.A couple vacationing in southern France filed an insurance claim for the paint on their car after it got licked off by a heard of cows.
